Finding the Ocean-A Jewelry Journal
The heart does not wait for permission. The heart is the permission.
The heart does not wait for permission. The heart is the permission.
On June 20, 2012, I set out to collect a found object every day for a year, make a journal record of its origin and create a piece of jewelry from it. Two months in, I faced a second diagnosis of breast cancer. While not the initial impetus, the project became a primary resource for continuing in the face of uncertainty and the jewelry pieces were completed in mid July 2012, shortly after I finished IV Chemo. In 2017, following a third diagnosis, Radiation treatment and relocation, I slowly began attaching the small journal entries onto larger pages. Through the work of photographing, expanding the text and adding images, I weave and embrace my relationship to time, place, healing and creativity. Each page is also a Fluxus style "score"; so each piece can also be performed. In 2021, I began releasing the work by gifting pieces to 3 friends on their own healing journeys.
